I am struggling with CPAP due to lung cancer and sleep apnea

I've been dealing with sleep apnea for a while, but the real challenge started after I lost both of my upper lung lobes to lung cancer. The doctors recommended using a CPAP, but even on the lowest setting, I'm really struggling to exhale against the incoming air. It's honestly exhausting and doesn't feel right. I've tried adjusting it, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone have experience with this kind of issue? I'm looking for any tips, workarounds, or alternative solutions that might make breathing easier while using a CPAP or even something completely different

A BiPAP machine provides two different pressures: it gives you a higher pressure when you breathe in and a lower one when you breathe out. This setup often makes exhaling feel easier and more comfortable. Have you considered seeing a Board Certified Sleep Specialist? They tend to concentrate more on sleep-related problems compared to general pulmonologists. Hope this information is useful! Keep us posted on how things turn out

Have you talked to your doc about switching to a BiPAP? it gives separate pressures for inhale and exhale, and the drop in pressure during exhale can make a lot of difference or another route is an auto titrating CPAP with expiratory pressure relief maxed out, still not as flexible as BiPAP, but might help and yeah do keep us posted pleaase

I'm sorry about what you're going through. but you need to consult to your doctor and explain exactly what you're experiencing. Your unique lung situation means they need to adjust your therapy. This is not a situation for generic advice or self treatment

Pushing CPAP on someone missing half their lungs is borderline negligence, if exhaling feels impossible, that machine isn't therapy, it's torture. You should be on BiPAP or another tailored solution, not a cookie-cutter prescription.
