Inconsistent CPAP AHI Readings

My son's been using his CPAP for about 18 months, and we've noticed his 'events per hour' numbers are really inconsistent.

Some nights it's as low as 0.6, and then the very next night it jumps up to 7.5, even though we haven't changed anything with his machine or his nightly routine.

Is this kind of fluctuation common, or should we be looking into something?

A little fluctuation is normal due to things like sleep position or congestion but a jump from 0.6 to 7.5 is a big leap. This is not to cause any alarm but I think it's best to reach out to your sleep doctor. If his machine stores data, I suggest you take it with you during your consultation so they can interpret it for you. I think it's always best to get professional opinion when you see inconsistency like that, especially there's not a one-size-fits-all solution to situations or conditions like this.

Yeah, totally agree, best to loop in the sleep doc when numbers jump like that. Did anything change with his mask fit, sleeping position, or even meds recently? And what kind of machine is he using?

I agree with the suggestions above. Try noting which nights spike (back sleeping or leaks) and tweak the mask fit. if it stays high, have his sleep doctor adjust the pressure

If things feel off, get them checked out, that's S.O.P. It could be nothing, but why risk it? I don't think a quick visit to the doc can hurt
