Hi, I'm Julie. I'm almost 46 and I live in California.

I went for a sleep study in 2015, and when it came time to put on the mask, I instantly freaked out and couldn't do it. Instant claustrophobia! Small spaces now freak me out. I don't like the door to my room to be shut, and I definitely cannot have the bathroom door shut or even partially closed. Anywho, so even though I couldn't do a complete study, the doctor said from what could be determined was that I do have sleep apnea, but he offered no solutions without doing a complete sleep study.

In late 2018, I had 2 possible PE (pulmonary embolism) events. I would lie down to go to sleep, but would get a hot flash/overheated and would have trouble catching my breath, and both issues would go away after a few minutes of sitting upright, but would resume right when I lay back down. I would end up sleeping upright on the couch, and after a few days would end up in the ER because it wouldn't stop. I would have ultrasounds, chest x-rays, and blood tests done, but they could never 100% say it was a PE because of my size (I'm a bigger gal).

In 2019, I got a hospital bed so that I could just automatically sleep upright, and it has made a huge difference. Before, I would wake myself up on occasion from my snoring, but after I started sleeping in the hospital bed, it has not happened. And I now also sleep with oxygen on because I get so relaxed my 02 drops below 90. I've woken up during the night to find that my nasal cannula had come off and my 02 was in the 60s! I hate how loud my current concentrator is though. I'm only on 2 liters, but I have a machine that goes up to 10. Hopefully I'll get a better one soon.

I also live in a nursing facility because of my other health and mobility issues and because I cannot take care of myself.
