Failed sleep study, failed sleep study with CPAP, failed sleep study with auto PAP, sent home to either deal or die.

I could not get anywhere with medical sleep help. The technician that ran my sleep studies said he wasn’t allowed to do a diagnosis, and handed me a pamphlet for surgery, which I did not qualify for because there’s nothing to fix. They sent me home to deal with the sleep apnea or die. I found two things that help: one is a sleep in a recliner. It’s sad because I would rather sleep with my husband, but at least this way I get some good restorative sleep andI don’t freak him out when I stop breathing and my heart skips a beat or two. The other one is an oxygen concentrator. I don’t have to use it every night thanks to the recliner, but it really does help at those times. I’m having trouble breathing anyway.

Am I the only person out there that had this much trouble and could not use a CPAP? They sent me home at one point with an autoPAP but it did not help. I was awake every time it adjusted the pressure. Even the sleep study with the auto did not help. It showed that I was not sleeping through the adjustments.

I have the same problem they are telling me to get the dental device and it should work. I am in the process of seeing the dental guy that makes them.

A dental device, that’s very fascinating! I would be interested in hearing more about that. I do wear a night guard, but I found that sleeping semi upright, has solved most of my problem.

I went for a sleep study in 2015, and when it came time to put on the mask, I instantly freaked out and couldn't do it. Instant claustrophobia! So I couldn't do a complete study, though the doctor did say from what could be determined was that I do have sleep apnea, but he offered no solutions without doing a complete sleep study. I would wake myself up on occasion from my snoring, but after I started sleeping in a hospital bed, it has not happened. And I also sleep with oxygen on because I get so relaxed my 02 drops below 90. I've woken up during the night to find that the nasal cannula came off and my 02 was in the 60s.

I am just glad to hear that I am not alone. They act like the CPAP machine is the answer to everything when it comes to sleep apnea, and I’m glad to hear that I’m not crazy. It’s not always the answer.

Our PCP had to be fired. She was completely useless. I could barely get her to run any blood test let alone do another study to find out if anything like that’s going to help me. I do have a night guard and I’ve changed my sleeping arrangements, both of which have helped tremendously. I’m doing really well now.

That's great glad to hear it
